September 2008

A priceless moment on Countdown tonite: Margaret Carlson characterizes the characteristics of the Couric interviews as more like therapy than journalism…….something I was talking to friends about immediately after witnessing the carnage. The look on Katie’s face seemed to convey the same wincing concern that a therapist might display for a patient retelling an excruciatingly painful life experience. Ouch.

Same time next week, Governor?

David Frum, former Bush speech writer and now conservative columnist, said this about Ms. Palin:

“The story of Dan Quayle is he did probably 1,000 smart things as vice president, but his image was locked in and it was very difficult to turn around. And Dan Quayle never in his life has performed as badly as Sarah Palin in the last month.” -David Frum

Sarah can’t name a single supreme court case other than “Rowe v Wade”.

Joan Walsh of Salon.com says that Palin “would be a MENACE as Commander-in-Chief”

Gwenn Ifill broke her ankle yesterday…..but will still host “The Debate”.

There will be a Senate vote on a new recovery plan tomorrow nite….Obama, Biden and yes, even McNasty will be there.

People? Mountains? Oceans? Mediums? Yeah, Mediums. Mediums. Not the kind that channel spirits and contact the “great beyond”. Mediums. Mediums that have been in front of Gov. Palin all these years. Yup, Yup…you know, like…….uhhhhhhh….

And therein lies the rub. Confronted by hard hitting journalist Katie Couric, Palin was UNABLE to specifically name even ONE media offering that she just moments before, vehemently claimed that she reads on a consistent basis. Couric asks here to specifically name a few of the sources, and she comes back with:

“I have a vast variety of source where we get our news,” Palin said. “Alaska isn’t a foreign country, where it’s kind of suggested, ‘wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?’ Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.”

Isn’t that special? Isn’t that CHILLING????

Ok, not bugged enough? WANNA SEE?

Discussing the probability that Sarah Palin will be seen to have won the debate, the Washington Post’s Gene Robinson made the above observation. Has the Palin performance over the past 2 weeks lowered the bar so low that she can’t fail????? Chris Matthews asks that question.

Been away for a while, back now, and here’s what I’ve found so far:

Real Time Trading Odds!!!!

He might Fake Suspend Again!!!!

Chris Matthews is EATING Tom DeLay’s LUNCH on Hardball. Just sayin’……..

Good God….will she never EVER learn to control her mouth?

Katie Couric: You made a funny comment, you’ve said you have been listening to Joe Biden’s speeches since you were in second grade.

Gov. Palin: It’s been since like ’72, yah.

Katie Couric: You have a 72-year-old running mate, is that kind of a risky thing to say, insinuating that Joe Biden’s been around awhile?

Gov. Palin: Oh no, it’s nothing negative at all. He’s got a lot of experience and just stating the fact there, that we’ve been hearing his speeches for all these years. So he’s got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I’m the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he’s got the experience based on many many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want in these next four years.

Here’s an INCREDIBLE distortion

THE REAL QUOTE:

[We need] a plan that would extend expiring unemployment benefits. For those Americans who have lost their jobs and have been working hard to find a new one, but haven’t found one yet. That’s part of the change we need. And then after this immediate problem, we’ve got the long-term fundamentals that will really make sure this economy grows. Change means tax code that doesn’t reward the lobbyists who wrote it, but the American workers and small businesses that deserve it. As President I am going to eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups.

Steven Webber is SPOT ON as usual!!!

If Palin doesn’t crap her pants she wins.

“I didn’t decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. I was sixty-two years old when I made the decisions and I thought it was my one shot at the prize.” -John McCain,Worth the Fighting For 2002

Need I say more?

It’s a Sticky

Do I have to say anything? I’ve been working a lot on the house today, so I haven’t been online, but I have read all of the reviews, conservative vs liberal, and the consensus is what I already surmised by watching the debate. Obama takes it. Not a knockout, surely, but there is no question as to who was the most Presidential. Shades of Kennedy/Nixon. If you listened to K/N only, you’d have thought Nixon won. Anyone watching, however, gave it to Kennedy. In this case, listening to the debate left no question that Barack won. WATCHING the debate, watching the body language, said it all. Hunched, angry, petulant child who won’t look at his rival vs confident, charismatic and poised statesman, completely conversant with foreign policy AND economics, even tempered and amiable.

And the spin? Please. The only thing funnier than the McLoser campaign spin is the fact that they won’t let Palin spin anything…..I guess after 3 excruciatingly bad interviews, they figured she’d be BORC-ing all over the place. It’s sounds like the McCain campaign is going to have to put the “Swedish Chef” into the “cone of Silence” for a while………

WTF? The debate didn’t take place yet? WHAT? Musta been Putin in the airspace.

Lieberman just said that McCain came to Washington, got things going, now that there’s nothing to do for the next few hours, he can go to the debate. David Gregory buys it (as usual).
